Torquay State School was originally opened on 12 January 1901 and was located at the corner of Barnstaple and Honiton Streets.
It was a provisional school - meaning that it had less than 30 pupils and had been built on land owned by the parents. This school was closed and a new school erected on the present site, on the corner of Tavistock and Torquay Terrace, in 1939.
Torquay State School is situated in a central part of Hervey Bay less than 100 metres from the beach.
Hervey Bay is a rapidly growing tourist and retirement centre and the home of choice by many people who have moved into the area. Hervey Bay is an extraordinarily beautiful coastal area close to Fraser Island and other small islands which the school utilises in its programs. |
