So named after Augustus Hervey by Captain Cook when he passed by the bay in 1770.
Hervey Bay is situated on the shores of the South Pacific Ocean and is only a short distance from Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island and Lady Elliot Island a fantastic resort island on the Great Barrier Reef. Hervey Bay is situated about three drive north of Brisbane. The recently upgraded Hervey Bay Airport has direct flights from Brisbane and Sydney.
You can get to beautiful Fraser Island by ferry from Hervey Bay or Inskip Point north of Rainbow Beach, or by chartered flight from Maroochydore Airport. |

| Have a look on gthe map: Fraser Island is big. If you want to go to see only a liitle bit of Fraser Island you need 2-3 days!
You have to go from the mainland by ferry. Depending from where you go - 3-4 are gone for the trip alone - not much left of the day.
